A purrfect trip to a coffee shop

Ronee Fritcher, Staff Writer

Do you like cats? Do you also like coffee? Then you should probably visit the cat coffee shop in Omaha Nebraska. The name of the cafe is called Felius Cat Cafe. It is listed as one of the cutest coffee shops in Omaha. What is there not to love about it? There are cute little felines and delicious coffee to order.

The idea is very unique and interesting. Not only can you sip on your favorite coffee or tea but you can snuggle up to the cutest felines in town. The coffee shop not only lets you visit the cats, but you can also adopt one if you choose to do so.

So how does a cat coffee shop work? It’s pretty simple actually. It’s $7.50 for a 30 minute express cuddle session, $14.00 for an hour and $10.00 for any additional hour. The entry fees go towards cat care and ensuring the best possible experience for you and the feline friends. Felius does have a rule that children must be six and up for safety of the cats. They recommend reservations but also accept walk-ins happily.

When I visited the Felius I met three cute little kitties. I’m unsure if there were more there that were just hiding. The cats were super friendly and cuddly. The one that really enjoyed being close to me was named Lincoln. He was a one year old ginger cat who loved taking naps. Sadly, I’ve found out that he has been adopted recently. Hopefully he went to a loving family and warm home.

Felius does have a website that you can visit at any time and see all the cats that they currently have at the coffee shop. Just like the cafe, the website is super cute and well planned out. On the website you can set up a reservation and also donate to their cause. Again, all donations and fees go towards helping the cats and making their lives better.

Another tab that is on the website is a “volunteer tab”. I didn’t have the chance to talk to them about volunteering but I did read the website about the subject.

Felius Cat Cafes mission statement is: “Revolutionize Omaha’s cat adoption experience through interaction, education and community while putting animal welfare first.”

Their goals are to adopt at least 100 cats per year and help to lower euthanasia rates, provide the most comfortable out of shelter adoption experience for rescue cats and to create a trap-neuter-release program that engages the community and spays/neuters 200 cats per year.

Of course there are requirements for becoming a volunteer. You must be at least 19 years of age. You must be able to commit to at least 8 hours each month. You must commit to a minimum of 6 months. You must also attend a volunteer orientation training session. Lastly, all volunteers are required to sign a liability release waiver. You will complete an application on the website and the Felius employees will review it and get back to you.

The opportunities that come with volunteering are rewarding to both you and the cats. You can help feed and monitor the cats. They also need TNR/community cat colony caretakers and advocates. There will be fundraising and event planning. Felius also needs help with photography and and design services.

Felius was created for the cats and the wellbeing of the cats. Everything they do is for the cats. They have warm coffee, ice coffee, lattes, tea and I cannot stress this enough, they have cats. So, will you try out the Felius Cat Cafe and possibly adopt an adorable loving kitty?
